Chinatown Walking Tour App
We have launched our very innovative mobile multimedia Calgary Chinatown walking tour app. Involving thousands of hours of work, developed over the past year, with many options for the exciting expansion of content and languages, version 2.0 of the Sien Lok app provides several 20 minute self-guided tours of Calgary's Chinatown and Sien Lok Park for visitors to enjoy and learn about Canadian Chinese history. With tours available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and, for Canada's 150th Birthday (2017), French, the Sien Lok app continues our mission of preserving and promoting Canadian Chinese culture.
The app was one of the Society's major uses of casino funds and represents a great way to encourage pedestrian traffic throughout Chinatown and Sien Lok Park. We also are spearheading the expansion of our app with other groups to build out the app into an entire city guide complete with participation from municipal, multicultural, and tourism groups as part of a larger cultural initiative for the city.
The Sien Lok Park
This is a cultural park located in the heart of Calgary's Chinatown along the Bow River. The Sien Lok Society, in cooperation with the community, preserved and developed Chinatown's lone green space into Sien Lok Park in 1982. The park is built on the city land and is maintained by the city of Calgary.
