Glimpses from the Past: Wall of Names

You will find a wealth of outdoor art and architecture when walking or cycling around the Sien Lok Park. The glimpses of Chinese-Canadian history have been well captured in these art pieces and sculptures. The "Wall of Names" is dedicated to the history of Chinese immigration to bring recognition to the Chinese pioneers who entered Canada in the hopes of a new beginning.

The sculpture focuses explicitly on those who came between 1886 and 1947. The period marks the enforcement of the act described as "An Act to Restrict and Regulate Chinese Immigration in Canada" by the federal government. The Sien Lok Society of Calgary commemorates the Chinese immigrants through the Wall of Names.
